This colourful Autumn painting was produced outside on Sandsend beach, North Yorkshire in November 2015. The shape of the canvas really gave me the opportunity to depict the tide rolling in. I used a palette knife so I could record the sky and cloud movement quickly. I wanted the colours to give the viewer the cold, clear salty smells you experience on a northern beach as winter approaches. The North Sea is at it's warmest at this time of year from Autumn to Winter - so the palette hints at this warmth.
The oil paints are a high quality pigment and I always use Premium Wide depth 10oz Stretched Cotton Canvas.
