Artist's description:
Based on the knowledge of ancient world and nature development, the subject of attention was always an important rule of the game in surviving. We experienced how difficult it is to find a chameleon in the bunch of leafs when it takes the color of surrounding and matches with it. On the other hand a peacock uses his brightness and colourfulness as the promise of reproduction. Attention or camouflage plays very big role in the nature world till now.
What we humans have learned form the nature is the manipulation of being visible or hidden. It is simply because each of these modes gives us specific benefits and disadvantages in different situations. For example, being positively noticed in society can give us nice benefits, so people are willingly execurate their “bright sides” to catch that wished attention. Only sometimes they forget that being in the spotlight can bring you the same amount of difficulties brought from the same society, from the side those who faces the jealousy.
It is understandable, because same as chameleon, it is sometimes needed to be hidden, not visible, if you have the reasons for that. Although the wish of being noticed and the fears we confront on the way there, are simply crashed and we struggle in balancing them.
For me attention is a fact of emotional readiness to face the world. For example, being busy in head working on own problems, made me wanting to disappear and being grey, not noticed. But as soon as inner balance was rearranged, the need of attention form outside became wanted and appreciated. So, in this case I would consider the position in spot of attention as readiness to share. If you are empty, you have nothing to give, so, you don’t want to be noticed. As soon as you have something to give, you are ready to the healthy exchange and willing to become a public figure.
Funny enough, only while climbing the cliff of attention, you see from the new level new and unknown before not only positive aspects, but also difficulties of being in attention light.
After all the question is: where is that border, which gives us, humans in modern society, the ability to be satisfied with the amount of attention we need AND the responsibilities, which we take while stepping on the first stair on the way to attention?
