I wanted to get the feeling of grace while painting this incredible animal. The largest member of the ray family is the Atlantic Manta Ray, which has an average wingspan of 5.2m - 6.8m. The largest ever recorded was 9.1m wide! The name 'Manta' comes from the Spanish word for 'blanket'.
This watercolour was painted on Bockingford 300gms St Cuthbert's Mill watercolour paper.
