The viewer is looking directly out to sea from the standpoint of the waters edge towards a dramatic breaking wave.
Inspired by visits to the Suffolk coast town of Southwold, Christopher Witchall continues his preoccupation with the power and beauty of the ocean - capturing a movement frozen in time between the ancient past and an endless future.

The artist’s unsentimental approach to his subjects combine two great passions - a love of traditional painting techniques and a fascination with the photographic image. The result of this are paintings that are both painterly and highly realistic.
