Artwork description:

Astra Flax is an illustration of a flax seed processing machine built of wood. The large vertical screw in the center of the image is turned thereby applying pressure to the flax in the reservoir at bottom. Flaxseed oil is the result. The central screw is not evocative of Brancusi's Endless Column. Brancusi's Endless Column is almost a direct rendering of this screw based machine. Astra Flax is based on a machine in the Astra National Museum Complex in Sibiu, Romania. The Astra National Museum Complex is essentially a village museum documenting peasant life in preindustrial Romania. If you like Constantin Brancusi, this complex is a must see.

Materials used:

Oil based ink, acid free paper
