Ever since childhood, Martial Molitor wanted to draw. He spent all his time sketching and looked any opportunity to learn. Self taught, he learned by observing nature and people, which allowed his Art to grow freely and independantly. He perfected his technique in Paris, where he learned how to use oil pastels and sanguine, media he incorporated in his work. He started exhibiting in Parisian galleries in 1982.
Molitor moved to the United States in December 1988, and lived there until 1997. Back to Paris in 1998, he continued to show in Washington DC. He now lives in Cambridge, England.
VISION OF THE ARTIST :
""My paintings try to capture the movement and the energy hiding in people and objects, and the great diversity of nature. Line and contour are very important to me. I do my best to bare human soul confronted with the joys, fights and miseries of every day life. Colors, bright or somber, and light, allow me to spotlight the soul of m characters, and unveil it. I try in my work tocreate an imaginary world that will please those lingering in it by its esthetics and sensuality.
Painting is for me the vehicule which allows me to express my deep feelings and my vision of the world. I use a varity of materials, the main of which is oil paint. But I also work with oil pastels, gouace, watercolor, sanguine, charcoal and pencil. I paint mostly on canvas or cardboard. But is is oils that allow me to give free reing to my love of bright colors and texture.""
