This portrait of a young woman from West Virginia dates to the mid to late twenties. Coats with fur collars were fashionable and affordable. Her hat may have came from the Montgomery Ward mail order catalog. I found a similar one in a reprint of a catalog from the early twenties. I have not found a match for the pin she wears, though. Easter is a time of year when you might need to wear a coat, but also wear a hat adorned with flowers. And yes, I love painting people wearing that type of Sigmund Freud/Harold Lloyd glasses.
