This was inspired after I had read 'Moby Dick' again, and illustrates the violent meeting of the men in their flimsy whaleboat with the white whale they had been hunting for so long. Captain Ahab with his whalebone leg is on the point of plunging his harpoon into the whale.
The arrangement of ropes, oars, and men in the boat is described in detail in the book and I have tried to faithfully copy that description.
This painting is offered fully varnished with a solid maple frame, ready to hang.
