Artist's description:

This is the second one in a series of wood and canvas pieces. I have a roll of canvas and I thought of making small pieces, some in the style of sumi-e, although my work isn't just in black ink. I also had some pieces of wood and I left both the canvas and the wood as they were, with their imperfections, as there is a belief in Japanese culture: `Kintsukuroi - "to repair with gold" - the art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique. As a philosophy it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise it.` The conclusion being that there is beauty in imperfections and it actually ads more to the uniqueness of the work, talking about the long journey we are on as human beings in finding and defining ourselves.

The work has several layers of varnish to protect it, especially the canvas, but I do recommend to keep it away from liquids.

The wood is thick enough that it can be put as it is or you can hang it as well.
