Artist's description:
This is a painting of one of several dilapidated buildings in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington DC. Despite its state of decay, this building for me had a visually stunning appearance on the corner of 8th Street and Rhode Island Avenue, especially with the lurid red boards covering the windows, as well as its unusual art combination-- Egyptian imagery, portraits of Duke Ellington, Carter Woodson and Robert Gould Shaw -- covering the walls. It was renovated over a year ago and is now the Barber of Hell's Bottom.
