Artist's description:

Digital image manipulated into high tonal contrast in monochrome.
This is part of a series of images from a disused steelworks situated in Beijing, China which was re-located in order to reduce the polluting effects on the encroaching city environment. The city of Beijing has grown so much over the past decade or so that large areas of both industry and agricultural land have been swallowed up by urban development to accommodate the expanding population of the area.
The abandoned steelworks stands as a reminder to the industrial foundation of the Chinese economy which has taken China to new levels of prosperity and economic growth.
The structures of this large industrial area are impressive by their scale and form "real life" sculptures of great power and beauty.
