Question for the artist?

Artist's description:

This is my painting of Tyneside Scottish and Irish attacking south of La Boiselle. Painting is based on one of a few photographs from the day.
Both my grandfathers were at The Somme and suffered the full horrors of the battle. One was in the 6th London Field Ambulance and the other was an officer in the 2nd battalion of the Tyneside Scottish.
The Tyneside Scottish part of the 34 Division attacked south of La Boiselle and suffered huge losses. They managed to take a small section of German trenches and held them for 48 hrs until relieved. My grandfather was one of 5 officers and 155 men to survive those 2 days out of a battalion strength of over a 1000.
