Artwork description:

I came to live in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1980. At the time, this once great northern UK city was on its knees, along with most of the great industrial centres in the North of England.

The quayside area is now a hive of modern developments, cool bars and clubs, great centres for music and art. Back then, before the development work started, the area was almost a 'no go' section of the city. Then the developers moved in and started demolishing the C18th warehouses, leaving a sea of bricks and rubble in their wake, almost a parallel river of stone, running in between the great bridges of the Tyne.

This shot is almost the nadir of the city's existence, showing the results of the drastic surgery required before the reconstruction of the city could begin.

Limited Edition prints are printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl 285gsm paper, a premium quality, acid- and lignin-free paper. FineArt Pearl paper has a similar foundation to that used in the past in traditional silver fibre prints. Its premium formulation allows for high image definition, deep blacks and outstanding reproduction of colour and detail.

Prints are on A2 paper size, each in an edition of 20, plus 1 Artist’s Proof. The image is printed full frame onto the standard sized A2 sheet. The actual print will have a border around the sides and top to allow for framing.

An A1 limited-edition print is also available of this image, again limited to 20 copies. Please contact Jonathan for pricing details and availability.

Smaller prints are also available in A3 and A4 limited editions.

Materials used:

35mm HP5 negative, printed onto A2 size Hahnemuhle archive paper
