This image was taken at Bom Jesus Church, Old Goa, India, and the church was deserted as dawn had just broken. Sites like this early in the morning provide the best opportunity for uninterrupted exploration which bestows upon the image a mystical, other-worldly quality that is emphasized in this black and white format. The mysticism inferred within this piece is achieved by the shadowing effect created by the arches. Within such an ecclesiastical context, a path of archways can act as a metaphor for our changing states of existence which conveys differing interpretations dependent upon the sacrosanct beliefs of each individual viewer. To create an image which conveys differing emotional responses depending on the individual is an important aspect of being a photographic artist and one that inspires me to continue my work.
