Artist's description:

These cracked plates were found under a 17th century house in the centre of the Dutch city of Haarlem. The oil painting is on Belgian fine linen.

Haarlem was one of the wealthiest cities during the Golden Age of the new Dutch republic in the 1600s. It was from here that the genre of Dutch still life painting evolved, driven most notably by Claesz and De Heem.

This was a commissioned piece - a great way to buy a truly bespoke painting. For more info please click the "New! Commission artwork" button at the top of my page.

Materials used:

oil paint, wood, fine linen
