About Yuan Chen

I was born in China and migrated to the United States in 1999. Since English is my second language, my ability to communicate is often lacking some of the cultural references, or the local slang and dialect which enrich the ability to express one’s self. As a result, I often feel a void when looking for the words to fully describe my thoughts and emotions.

 However, in the creation of my art, I am free from these limitations. My art allows me to feel as though I am able to fully express myself and to more accurately reflect my inner world.

Art is my perfect second language. It frees me from the limitations of verbal communication and allows me to speak my inner authenticity. 

I live and work in California, United states. I graduated with a MFA degree from University of Davis, United states in 2017.
