About Victoria Luntsi

  • Biography
Art has been a constant part of my life. From my introduction to art as a child during school, through completing my degree at the prestigious Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts & Industry, and over my more than 10 years of experience as a Creative designer and the Art Director of advertising agencies, I have been inspired to explore Art in its varying forms – trying new materials, shapes, and colors that reflected my discoveries in the world around me.
My formal University education allowed me to experiment with oil, metal and enamel. My works in these were exhibited across Moscow galleries and exhibitions in Russia, such as Central House of Artist, exhibition hall Union of Artists.
However, once I discovered wool, this became my material of choice and I have focused on it ever since.
Wool is unique in being both a voluminous plastic and color rich substance. Woolen felt is one of the oldest textiles from the Neolite Era, and I take pride in bringing this historical heritage back through my works which use a blend of both ancient techniques and modern technology. Working with Felt provides the Artist with a tangible sense of magic as they can literally feel the material transform and take shape in their hands, often experiencing the wonder as they witness and new technologies allow them to turn the material into something new and wholly unexpected.
Wool is associated with warmth, safety, and comfort – factors which draw people to woollen works and make them want to touch, hold, and feel them. I love it when my works inspire this reaction in others, even more so when they are surprised that I have been able to create such objects and forms out of wool.
It is this mixture of the real and magical worlds that makes working with wool so satisfying and exciting. Thus, my works draw inspiration from both Nature as well as sketches. In this way, I can transfer the totality of my emotions, moods, perceptions, and experiences into the woollen canvas.

Works are in private collections in Russia, England and USA.
