    'Flatlay' reality

The truth is, I shoe-horn most of my work around my kids, which inevitably leads to moments like this: My 2YO wanting to take pictures while I am trying to frantically photograph new work in daylight before the rain comes!

    Tools of the trade

    Tools of the trade

I am mainly (not exclusively) a palette knife painter. I don't own millions of brushes and I actually don't cope well with them. My paint is 'buttered' onto the canvas and so it's pretty thick and takes ages to dry. It makes for a wonderful texture!

    Materials

    Materials

I use the best oil paints I can, these are Michael Harding pigments and provide wonderful coverage and ensure the longevity and quality of the oil painting. The canvas, paints and mediums are all of the finest quality so the painting may be enjoyed for years to come with no colour shift, yellowing or cracking of paint. The high quality of the materials used are reflected in my pricing and useage. If you have any questions about the materials I use, please do get in touch or follow my instagram page for more ‘in work’ images and videos.

    Working in the studio

    Working in the studio

Me trying to remember and translate into canvas that day I was up the mountain or hiking or standing on the beach in the rain. Sometimes I am able to take ‘field notes’ by way of sketches-but only if the weather allows and it rarely does! Snapshots and the experience of moving through the landscape sometimes are my only records. But in my studio alone, I can remember those times and the cold or the wind or the unbelievable view. I like to think that the music I listen to adds another layer of emotion to the work-so the studio is literally filled with artists but it’s just me painting.

    A day in the studio

As a busy mum of two, the times I get a whole day in the studio to paint are wonderful. I get to be me again and let my mid completely wander into my painting!

Moving the work out of the studio.

Moving the work out of the studio.

Getting all the kids seats out, the seats folded down and then getting the paintings in - then having to reverse the process.... I’m sure there are many artists and parents out there who feel my pain!
