About Silvia Tafur

 
 
  • Biography

    Silvia Tafur works in painting, photography, design, and Art Counseling; using Art as a therapeutic tool in various cultural and social contexts. She has designed, led and participated in different art and educational projects. In 2008, she received a scholarship to participate in a course on Designing for Sustainability at Schumacher College in UK.  Afterwards, she developed various workshops with this focus since 2009; creating an itinerant project. She presented workshops in Peru, Canada, and Puerto Rico, focusing on Democracy, Sustainability, and Therapeutic Arts. 

    Inspired to work with communities, she designed and conducted workshops for Quechua communities in the Peruvian Andes of Huaraz, Ancash. In 2014, she was employed by a retreat center as resident Art Specialist and interpreter.  The encounter with ancient healing techniques and indigenous plant medicines plus the study of over 200 cases, has enriched her understanding of human nature and the need to participate actively in one’s own healing process. Currently, she alternates between her work and her studies of Art Counseling.
