About Sandra Roeken

  • Biography
I was born in 1965 in the Ruhr Area /Germany.
Since 1997 I live in Schöppingen, in North West Germany, close to the Dutch border.

I am a Photo Artist from Germany. I've sold more than hundred pictures during the last years. Many of my works were sold to the USA, Great Britain and Australia. Also to Singapore, Italy, France, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, and Hong Kong.

My work was exhibited in Germany, Poland (Wroclaw) and four times in London, where I also had a succesful solo exhibtion in Notting Hill in 2016.

I focus my work on the artistic aspect of photography. For me a photo must have soul. I am happy when the viewers eye remains longer on my work as only the time of an eye click. When he is touched.

My pictures are first digitally optimized, then layered with textures and intensively worked out. I'm always led by my feelings. Each of my photographs is unique in itself, since it is always processed out from a very special mood.

My primary subjects are land- sea- and cityscapes. I get my inspiration by nature and by travel. I love the nature at dawn and I love moody and misty landscapes.
Cities are fascinating me. London, Prague, Amsterdam are just great. And I really love Italy. Liguria, Rome, Florence, Siena, the whole Tuscany and of course Venice are simply dreamlike.
My work is also inspired by John Atkinson Grimshaw and William Turner.
Turner's fantastic seascapes and the foggy atmospheric pictures from Grimshaw touch me deeply.

I am a night worker. At night I can find the peace to create my work. I love the silence of the night, to be alone with my feelings and let them flow into my work.

Creating art is balm for my soul.
