Painting pet portraits

Here's a photo of me painting a gorgeous black shaggy dog. The owner wanted my colourful vibrant style, but as so much of the dog's character was about his black colour I had to incorporate that. I ended up putting down colourful watercolour washes and using pen and ink on top to show the intensity of his blackness, but with the multicolours shining through the lighter areas.
