My sewing machines are my drawing tools, I am comfortable and at home when behind one.
Stitch in all its forms has always been present in my life. Initially colour and texture were the main features, but over the years I have developed my own style and language. I work on art canvas in plain black cotton and much of my work is monochromatic. The contrast of black stitch on raw canvas allows me to distil form down to basics and then develop it to focus on detail. I use acrylic inks to add colour and vibrancy but only when it’s called for.
I find inspiration from my environment, mostly from the natural world. Having a studio in the middle of the countryside is wonderful. It is the simple things that I find most interesting; grasses, weeds and birds.
