About Ryan Herrin

  • Biography
My name is Ryan Herrin and I am an artist currently living in East Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountains. I enjoy creating art, mostly oil paintings from imagination because it a great escape from reality and allows me to express my thoughts, ideas, and dreams on canvas/panel.

I am a self-taught artist with no formal art classes / schools, but in recent years have spent a lot of time researching, studying, and practicing various techniques in oils. Most of the works that I have studied are from the 19th century tonalist artists, so when painting (especially from imagination), I have the tendency to focus on "mood at atmosphere", rather than details.

My landscape paintings often have a common theme of a sunset or night sky with a strong focus on mood and atmosphere...often combining realism with blurred/distorted forms and texture.

Some of my other oil paintings have common themes of Native American culture, seascapes, and wildlife/animals.

"On canvas we can hold a glimpse of memories, dreams, and roads untraveled."
