About Nichola Campbell

  • Biography
Working from my studio near Lewes in East Sussex, I paint with India inks inspired by the beautiful downland, forests and magnificent coastline of Sussex.

Originally from Brighton, I studied at Eastbourne College of Art and Brighton University (formerly Polytechnic) with a BA Hons Illustration in the late 1980’s and after a break in my art career, I finally returned to painting in 2013. In 2016 I joined the artist-led Chalk Gallery (Lewes UK), an artist cooperative and in 2019 became its Chairperson. I regularly participate in shows and exhibitions in and around the South of England and occasionally run workshops.

I love the rich sparkling colours I can achieve using inks, which are also lightfast, permanent and totally waterproof. My work convey my admiration for the natural world using expressive gestural brushstrokes, blobs or splatters.
