About Natasha Henderson

  • Biography

Painting is a dance between intent and happenstance. When I paint, I need to allow the creative process, the magic and unknown, to guide at least some of the work. I like to examine ideas about "what is creativity? How do we do this?" The next step is to communicate with an audience.

In recent work, I have taken formal rules found in various forms of music and poetry, and applied these rules to my painting. These canvasses have a sense of rhythm, metre, and mood found in the inspiring art form.

Currently I paint abstracted landscapes, and creatures such as cats or birds that inhabit the space and my paintings. Layers and glazes of oil create a sometimes foggy effect; and time is captured within the weeks it takes to create these works. Patterns emerge, and my creative process is represented within these works. I hope you see a story within them, too.
