    "Plein air" painting

    "Plein air" painting

"Plein air" is French for open air. I love to go outside in the summer and paint gardens, parks, our beautiful Toronto waterfront. All the gardeners in this particular park are practically my friends now :) They feel very proud of their garden and my paintings make them feel appreciated (as they have told me). It is a beautiful garden in deed! If you are ever in Toronto, Canada visit this gorgeous place - "The Music garden"

    Painting development

    Painting development

My painting technique is quite unusual, although it changes almost every single time as I'm constantly evolving (I hope). I don't start with a drawing on the canvas (although I have a sketch in my sketchbook), instead I block main colour combinations with diluted oils, developing details as I go. In smaller work (like this one) everything is done "alla prima" (wet-on-wet) during one single painting session. Because I have to finish in one go, I usually do a lot of planning and studies ahead and then I plan the whole day of painting with no distractions. With bigger work my approach is different.

Drawing is the foundation of everything

Drawing is the foundation of everything

This is one of 100 drawings I did in 2015 during my 100-day-drawing-challenge. It was a lot of fun to draw every single day for 100 days, however it really was a challenge!
