I was born in the Hague, the Netherlands.
Graduated in Textiles and Fashion at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague.
Since I grew up at the coast of Holland, this is where my love for the sea and its surroundings began. This is the perfect place for me to get my inspiration for my paintings. I love being outdoors, no matter how rough the weather is.
All the aspects from the coast inspire me; the sea , the clouds, the beach and its visitors. It's where I get my ideas which I translate into impressionist- style paintings.
With every painting I set myself a challenge. Sometimes I like to make a series about the visitors on the beach with, for instance, a palet knife. This is a very direct way of working and of course you fail sometimes. But when all goes well its very rewarding! Other times I like to study a specific item, for instance, the sea, waves or surf. The challenge is then to express a more "abstract" way of working. The atmosphere is more important than the actual image.Since she moved to the UK in 2019 she started making ceramic sculptures in raku firing techniques, together with her partner and ceramist Andy Sheppard. They have an open studio in Mid Cornwall.
I find it a very fascinating process becoming a participator in the process of chance with dynamic results. The end result is always a surprise. It's so nice to work with raku ceramics alongside painting.
