When looking at normal every day objects I see them in a different light. People see a teapot or kettle where I see the premise for a beautiful story which can be conveyed through a still life painting. Many people have asked me what inspires me to create beautiful artworks, and the simple answer to that question, is everyday life. In this Rat Race we call society it is often hard to stop and admire the beautiful things that are around us each day, which is why I paint every day objects and unusual landscapes. I often go to secluded areas and small towns in South Africa in order to find inspiration for new work, be it finding a rusted object in a scrap yard, or a beautiful flower indigenous to that region. Often I combine the two and paint beautiful landscapes on said rusted objects, which creates a whole new sense of depth to the artwork. I am a multi-media artist, and when choosing a subject for my artworks, I choose the media that would best convey the meaning behind my work. For example, when painting beach scenes I would use water color paints in order to create the flow of the ocean, and when painting still life I would use Oil Paint or Acrylic in order to best display the feeling of the objects. However, through all this careful planning and usage of different techniques, I just enjoy creating the best artworks that I can!
