An inner force compels and drives us to create art. And I'm just another person carrying out that creative force. My career has been in science and teaching, but that is just another manifestation of creation –albeit in another form –molding children instead paper or clay.
I've always been interested in creating things of truth and beauty. I love painting, photography (I worked as a magazine photographer for a few years while teaching), digital art, sculpture..etc, For some reason in the past three years, the feeling and desire to create art intensified –so that I traveled back and forth from work (teaching) to my home studio creating art, rarely leaving either of the two places with minor exceptions for necessities of life. I live in my little studio art world, my home now resembling a miniature art museum.
As far as specific and unique techniques, I don't have any unique ones as far as I know. I may create a work using various methods, but those are fairly standard to painting and drawing. I can tell you I love colored pencils, charcoal, graphite and watercolor. I mix my own paints –watercolors with pigment and gum arabic, acrylic pigments and polymers, and pigments and oils. It makes the process more interesting and fun. I work from photographs and live models (When my students are engaged with another teacher, I often create their portraits; they love it and cooperate by sitting very still). I give the kids my work -they "line-up" for their portrait –funny. I love animals, people and nature and like it when my work impacts the emotions of others.
