About Michael Cruickshank

I am inspired and moved by the stunning beauty of nature and particularly the landscape. Living in the heart of the Sussex countryside, I experience the daily changes in  light and weather which provide a wealth of ever-shifting atmospheric subjects for me to paint. I like to work direct from nature where possible, producing oil sketches that capture the fleeting moments of time and season. These sketches, along with drawings and written colour notes made on the spot, are the information from which I work to produce more finished studio paintings. As a landscape painter I strive to capture, not just the look of a landscape, but more importantly, the experience of being there.
