Born 1978 in Cheshire, I am a Contemporary artist now living and working in the stunning countryside county of Derbyshire. My inspiration comes from my surroundings and the diverse and interesting people around me.

Having worked and lived in India over a number of years, I fell in love with their culture and use of vibrant bold colours for decorative, religious and political purposes, there really wasn’t a pastel in sight. Instantly being welcomed and adopted into the families of those who I worked with allowed me the privilege to take part in many celebrations and festivals such as Diwali, Holi, Indian Independence Day and more.

These experiences and memories will stay with me forever, it changed me as a person for the better and my outlook on life was never the same from that point forward, it is this memory bank that influences my vibrant colour choices and regular use of metallic.

The calming effect of painting allows me to abstract my thoughts into an array of colours, using brushes, palette knives, fingers, rags and anything else I can get my hands on at the time, much to the annoyance of my supporting and understanding partner. I use varying methods of application and my general style consists of broad expressive brushstrokes combined with the application and removal of paint as it dries, scraping and scratching back to create layers that allows the viewer to continuously see new things within my paintings.

My choice of bold and vibrant colour palettes creates interesting representations of the thoughts I am trying to abstract and capture at the time, whether they be one of tranquility or one of chaos. When painting I allow myself the freedom to disconnect from the real world, it provides me with an outlet to see all things differently. I hope to inspire my viewers to experience that same creative freedom and thinking through my paintings.

Many of my paintings have a meaningful back story whilst others are created spontaneously with little to no planning, allowing the painting to form organically. I paint for the love of creating something beautiful and interesting to look at rather than searching for a hidden message or meaning in every piece. It is my belief that creating works that are beautiful for the viewer to look at are just as important as creating works that send a strong message to provoke thought or reaction.
