  • Biography
Markus Newman first found acclamation when he designed the 'feed the world' logo at the age of 14. He was nominated person of the year by the Daily Bulletin in 2016 Markus had a rough ride with his art career when he lost his best friend in an accident and then two years later he lost his fiance the same way. He taught himself how to express the loss firstly through poetry and then through paint to which has become his favourite expression. Being self taught, he has a style of his own which transcends between dark and light, tragic and humouress. Each painting tells a story.

    1984

Winner of the logo design competition for the "Feed the world" campaign by Sir Bob Geldof

I was 14 yrs old. The best way my teacher could keep me controlled was to sit me at the back with pencils. It wasn't difficult really... earth, with Africa at the front, and a knife and fork at the sides. The rest I'm sure you know..

I won a five pound book token (which I donated back to the cause) but the reward was seeing my design go global. Still a proud moment, especially when I messaged Sir Bob on facebook not so long back and he said he still has the original piece at home.
