About Mariusz Drabarek

  • Biography

I was born in Poland in 1979. I studied and consulted with several selected painters, including Paweł Wolański and Jerzy Fudala.I am a member of London's BowArt, where I lived for 11 years. As a member of this organisation, I took part in many competitions, workshops and exhibitions. There and before in Warsaw I gained the knowledge and artistic maturity I needed. This is where I refined my workshop.

There is something prosaic in my philosophy of being an artist, my paintings are who I am. They are emotions, feelings and passions that I absorb. I express myself with paints because this medium is closest to me. Well-combined colour, form and message can replace a thousand words.

In my paintings I reconstruct the reality created by the mass media. I cut it into pieces, mix, process and recombine with my own proportions. I am strongly influenced by New Wild (Die Neue Wilde), my art burns with strong, aggressive colours, with certain perspectives and sharp contrasts, which often makes them an expression of anger and rebellion.

My style is a compilation of several directions in art. Neo-expressionism, figurative painting with some influence of primitivism. I combine  different orders, different realities with spirituality and mysticism. Far Eastern philosophy with pure street art, pop culture and conspiracy theories. Everything I paint arises under the pressure of metaphysics.

Most often I use acrylic, but when needed also oil, sometimes mixed - at the one time on one canvas (all depends on what I want to say). I also applies a temporary varnish during painting and final varnish at the end. Sometimes collage.

I exhibited in 2019 at Gallery "Project 101" Warsaw. In 2016 at ''Sienko Gallery", London. In 2010 at Thames Tunnel Mills, London. In 2007 at the POSK Gallery, London.

I was awarded in 2012 in the National Open Art competition with the painting "Pope - the ruling elite".
