  • The Road to Coast

Essentially a journey from the beginnings of an idea through to the final work. I've been working towards a particular exhibition entitled 'Coast'. Now my work doesn't really fit into a box or theme, however like many artists I am always getting ideas from places or things around me and I have indeed been influenced by concepts, shapes and patterns I have found by Britain's coastline. I have found this series of work exhilarating and freeing to do. Which I think is evident in my colours. Like the sea I feel unlimited in where I go next.

    'Tidal Flow'

A day in my studio in North Wales. The painting that I'm putting the finishing touches to in this video is entitled 'Tidal flow' It is part of a series that I am producing around the theme of tides and the flow of water. I am taken with the notion of the cyclical nature of tides and of something that generally has no end and no beginning yet can be subject to erratic and unpredictable behavior. Behind the exuberant flowing nature of the paint is a layering of structures and processes. it is always interesting to me to see how much of this actually shows through at the end. I intend to continue exploring patterns of flow and what influences the outcome of them .

    working in my studio

My purpose built studio is small but perfectly formed. Designed to fit one of my largest paintings on the wall, I usually work on a table or on the floor. Set in the welsh countryside, It is an incredibly light space. With no wifi and no mobile signal it is an oasis of peace and quiet, although I admit I love to work to music, quite often singing and dancing at the same time as painting. I love the contradiction of what I paint to the surroundings in which they are painted
