About Lasse Hansen

  • Biography
I photograph landscapes because it makes me feel alive - by noticing the subtle differences in scenes from day to day, you get to see what is actually there - instead of just passing by expecting things to look the way they did yesterday. Seasons change and the weather can turn something ordinary into something extraordinary.
American Photographer Ansel Adams has thought me to photograph "straight", because nature doesn't need to be manipulated to be magnificent. And like him I've dragged my 4x5" inch camera through the forests, set it up and waited - and waited some more until the light suddenly changed and made my picture. I spend a lot of time waiting, seeing, listening, smelling the forest - appreciating the quietness, that allows me to tune in on myself - just being.
Today however it is less cumbersome - my Canon camera weights only 2.2 kg's with my standard zoom-lens, but I still carry the complete kit - lenses, filters and tripod - in the backpack - one never knows when it may be needed.
So generally I grab the pack when the weather forecast says thundershowers, heavy fog, rain in the autumn or snow...
