Biography
Langley Tolbert
Contemporary Abstract Expressionist
An intuitive painter who loves the adventure of painting spontaneously, Langley is known for her use of color, texture and composition. She began the serious study of painting at the University of Alabama and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of
North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Always learning, exploring and experimenting, she studies regularly with artists who inspire
her. She is also inspired by Alabama’s Lake Martin, where she works overlooking
its wooded shores in a studio she designed herself.
Other artists, past and present, who influence her work are Franz Kline, Richard Diebenkorn, Manuel Neri, Harrry Ally and Stanley Kurtz.
Langley’s paintings in acrylics and mixed media have won numerous awards and been chosen for the prestigious collections of Alabama’s Jackson Hospital, the Retirement Systems of Alabama and Alabama Art Colony. Her work has appeared in the Encore Exhibition of the Alabama State Council on the Arts, the Bi-Annual Show of the Montgomery Museum and the Annual Regions Bank Show.
