About Kieran McElhinney

I have been drawing since I was a small child and even then I was fascinated by the world of wildlife and nature. I qualified as a commercial artist and illustrator but only worked on a freelance basic painting what I enjoyed most,which were observations of nature. I have used watercolours,airbrush,etching,pastels and have even tried stain glass windows over the years.I now work only in oils as I find it is the best option for medium size and large depictions of wildlife in landscape paintings. I try to base my paintings on my own photos,drawings and field observations. I am also very lucky to have friends who allow me to use some of their amazing photos. A selection has been published in Irish Wildlife magazine and I was awarded a Special Merit Award in the Nov 2015 'Animals' competition in The LIGHT,SPACE AND TIME online art competition.
