Event: Light and the Lack Thereof
Dates: 27 Jun 2019 - 30 Jul 2019
Fulton County, PA based artist, Kellie Mele, has been creating large scale acrylic paintings in her recent color and light study. Originally from New Jersey, Mele has been an art educator with the Washington County Public Schools from 2004-2012 and Museum Literacy Coordinator in conjunction with the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts for the past 3 years.
The exhibit, “Light and the Lack there of”, is a collection of work created within the last 2 years that focuses primarily on strong contrasting light and the shadow it creates. Another important observation Mele makes is the creation of harmony through color, whether it is a monotone study or a strong contrasting pop of color. Mele uses light to draw the viewers’ eyes around the composition of the paintings.
Also on view are Mele’s playful illustrations from Marew’s Storm Water Adventure, written by Alex Reed from the Clean County Initiative in Washington County, Maryland. Copies of this book are sold here at WCAC.
