About Kay Moore

  • Biography
My studio, built by my lovely husband, is at the bottom of our garden, just down the path past the BBQ and Pizza Oven. I am inspired by colour, my paintings are vibrant and colourful.  Colours mimic a time or a place and you will often be drawn to a painting by just its colour.

    I
love to share my work with lots of people.  I sometimes exhibit in local galleries.  I am largely self-taught although I do have a pet portrait diploma.  I started with watercolours but when I discovered pastels, I knew they were for me!  I love their spontaneous approach.  Pastel does not refer to pale colours.  I use a mixture of top quality soft and hard pastels; soft pastels have a very high concentration of pigment, which is held together by a small amount of binder.  Their fragile consistency and powdery texture makes them well suited to blending and layering on lots of colour.  Their colours are wonderfully intense.  Using vibrant colours I inject energy and movement into my paintings.

I take my camera everywhere with me! I’m always taking photos, they make great reference ideas for lots of my paintings.

After painting, my favourite things are gardening, cooking, holidays and of course, my lovely hubby, Kevin!
