About Kathy Gales

  • Biography
Kathy's art is inspired by beautiful, unusual and interesting things that she sees every day.The convenience and immediacy of using a phone camera allows her to take lots of photos that she then uses to work out a composition. The strongest features of an image dictate how she develops a piece whether it be colour, texture, narrative or just an atmosphere. Kathy then chooses different media to make the best picture that she can. She either uses paint over a relief under painting, mixed media and collage to give a more vibrant surface or even drawing tools to convey line and detail. Her focus is on experimenting with new ways of working and at the moment particularly likes combining the graphic with the decorative. She finds many artists really inspiring such as Victoria Crowe and Gustav Klimt who use strong vibrant colour and linear detail in a beautiful, unusual and interesting way.
