About Kate Marion Lapierre

  • Biography
My abstract paintings are created using mixed media of acrylic paints and water-based oil paints with other textural elements such as plaster, paper, or cardboard incorporated into the finished work on canvas and wood. While the paintings can suggest landscapes with the use of horizontal lines of color, the primary focus of my paintings is the basic elements of color and texture.  I create in a layering process, becoming more detailed as the work is completed. Though I title the paintings, I want each viewer to connect with the piece and interpret it on a personal level. I am particularly drawn to the use of color and texture, and the emotions that they can evoke. The work of Mark Rothko, Matisse, Hans Hoffman, and contemporary abstract artists, continue to influence me.

My portraits are less abstract but created in a similar layering process with lots of textural elements and patterns. The portraits are also created on both wood and canvas and bring a unique style to each piece.
