    And then it becomes...

    And then it becomes - birch trees. Large, structured and fluent. Broken, weathered but strong against the elements. Standing tall against adversity. Birch trees grow in unity of threes. Three trees off one root system. The message is we are stronger together. Unity equals strength against diversity.

    I have now completed a general outline. I love this part of the creative process since I am no longer the one in control, the paint, colours, and formation of the trees now control the canvas. I am just a vehicle in the creative process.

    The Blank Canvas

    The Blank Canvas

    This is the start of a very large commissioned work I completed. The canvas is 56" by 43" and the request was for birch trees - life size. I started with the prepared white canvas. I normally work on prepared black canvas using my own techniques to produce vibrant, bold colors. I find prepared black canvas is a more predominate contrast to bright color and excentuates primary colors. Using the white canvas with a monochrome palate is a refreshing change! I thoroughly enjoyed completing this work.
