About Julia Brooker

  • Biography

Julia Brooker is a British fine artist who has been commissioned by art collectors around the world. She has exhibited in London, New York, Moscow, Buenos Aires & Hong Kong.  Her clients are international : Barclays Bank, Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline and BP International.

When Julia's son left home for college she decided to leave home too. She resigned, waving good bye to her pension and company car, to realise her lifetime’s dream to go to Art College. She lived in other people's spare rooms for 3 years and graduated from Cheltenham with a 1st class degree in Fine Art Painting.

Her paintings are made from the most expensive acrylic paint in layers on aluminium sheet. Her work is abstract, sensual, contemporary, and deceptively simple.

“I fell in love with aluminium…. It reflects light through veils of colour.” Julia says about her paintings: “I love colour and light. They excite me like a child in a sweet shop. I am always looking, thinking about, even dreaming about colour and paint. My ambition is  to make paintings that are beautiful. I hope that my paintings stop people for a few minutes and that they just want to stop from their busy lives and just quietly look.”

“The paintings are layered in colour and texture and when you get up close you can see more …. how they are made… the brush marks and where the colours weave through each other.”

Sam & Adele Golden Foundation, artist residency in USA

Julia was delighted to be selected to work in the dedicated artist's studios in New Berlin, New York state. Getting to know the Golden family was a pleasure, and the technical staff at Golden were very helpful. Julia learned a lot more about the paint she has been using since 2000. She watched acrylic and oil paint being made and put into tubes. The residency was completed with a group exhibition at the Golden Foundation.
