I am a professional artist living and working in Sussex and I feel like I've painted forever. My training in Graphic design in the 80's, just before computers started to be used for design, shaped the way I approach a painting. Movement, light and texture fascinate me and I am constantly striving for new ways to portray these elements in my work.

In addition to painting for exhibition and to sell, I tutor art and undertake commissions. Many of my commissions are of pets so I have a website dedicated to my Pet Portraits (www.petsbyjosie.co.uk
). Some of my more unusual commissions include a family of Dodos, a Harley Davidson motorbike, and a whole room wrap around mural. You name it, I'll consider painting it for you.
My work is in private collections in England, France, Spain and New York.
There are many artists who have influenced my work - one painting in particular, Nude descending a Staircase by Marcel Duchamp had a pronounced effect on me (look it up, it's fabulous) as did the earliest cubist works by Braque and Picasso, Futurist movement works by Umberto Boccioni, German expressionist work by Franz Marc and scupture by Henri Gaudier-Brzeska in the Vorticism movement.
I'll go through phases of painting particular subjects so you will see a variety of work, although I never leave a phase behind, it always crops up again as I discover new mediums and ways of working. Painting makes me happy and I aim to make the viewer smile - a small change which can have a big impact.
