I first began to exhibit in 2001 when I was given the opportunity to have a solo exhibition in an established gallery in Glasgow's West End: 30 paintings for a 3 week exhibition depicting Scottish scenes rural and urban. I was pleasantly surprised when most of the paintings were sold within the first week of the opening.
I have been hugely influenced by the wild landscapes of Scotland ... vast sweeps of mountain, moorland and heather; churning Highland skies howling over fields of black faced sheep and hairy Highland Coos. Contrast with quaint fishing villages of Fife like Pittenweem and Crail. Contrast with the grandeur of Edinburgh's New Town and the rich atmosphere of the Old Town. Contrast with the busy back lanes of Glasgow's West End.
The success of that first solo exhibition inspired me to paint with a passion and now have my work shown in a number of galleries throughout Scotland and have work in private collections in the USA, Canada, Germany and Japan as well as the U.K. and Ireland.
The medium I use is gouache and the style is bright, lively and perspectively challenged ! Some people may say 'squinty'. I don't mind squinty at all.
