    Paper

I use Saunders Waterford High White paper of standard weight (300gsm/140lbs). It is archival which means it will not discolour or fall apart over time and is made of 100% cotton rag. It is one of the highest quality watercolour papers. I used to paint with the traditional cream coloured paper, but found that the high white maximises the colour contrasts against the greys or blacks in my work, and gives a much more contemporary feel to my paintings.

    Certificate of Authenticity

    Certificate of Authenticity

The certificate will be printed on 210 gsm white card as shown and sealed in a display bag. It is the assurance from me that the artwork is an original and not a print, and also serves as a reference for any collector. The certificate is enclosed with the packaged artwork.

    Colours and Brands

    Colours and Brands

These are the colours and brands I use - mostly Schmincke - if Joseph Zbukvic (Z) uses them for their quality then they must be good. Not suprisingly, it is a very limited palette dominated by greys and blacks with reds and blues. It has been a fascinating process for me to see how my palette has gone from the full range of colours to this limited selection, but I have to paint with what resonates with me. I used to mix my greys, but in the end opted for pure grey straight from the tube as I did not want any separation of pigment from colour mixing to show up on the paper. It is very important to me that the reds, cool blues, and cool greens in my work contrast with the grey, to effectively highlight both the grey and the colour that gives a very contemporary feel to my paintings.
