About Jill Hsieh

  • Biography
I was born in Taiwan where I studied Commercial Design and received basic Arts education, but work as a translator in Localization field for many years. I first moved to a small town with population of 7,000 in the East coast from the capital city in Taiwan, Taipei, where 2 million people dwelt at the time. It was a big culture shock, and writing has been my way of coping.
Having children, especially my older daughter who has a different learning style, has changed how I see the world in a tremendous way. I began to appreciate the beauty of everything, especially in nature, small and big.
It was the beginning of 2015 a friend inspired me to pick up the pencils after so many years that helped me re-find my artistic path. Since then, it has been quite a journey.
I use Art as an expression based on my scientific understanding. That’s how I started my art on things that we don’t see, things that we don’t notice anymore. And on an unexpected occasion, it leaded me to household wastes, such as eggshell, pistachio shell, and finally yarn, one of my favorite mediums.
I have come to realize that when you see the world through your heart, you see beauty everywhere. I hope I will continue to find inspirations from our mother nature, and express it through different materials and share the beauty!
