My art is about stories and how they are told. I'm inspired by the history of storytelling, and in particular fairytale heroines. My last major show was a reworking of the tale Little Red Riding Hood. I wrote my own version of the tale, as a metaphor based in my own personal experience, entitled The Girl who had a Tail.
My work plays with universal symbolisms from the iconic to the archaic. I write fiction and poetry which informs my work. Anthropomorphising animals as a metaphor for aspects of the self (Jungian psychology) features greatly in my work.
I work in many tactile mediums including drawing, oil painting, pastels, wire sculpture, found object sculpture, construction, installation, object art, embroidery and more drawing! Drawing is my first love and everything I make grows from my drawings. I pour my heart and soul into my work and often use it to work through emotions as a therapeutic tool, which is evident in the line and expression and the polar styles I work in, from soft sensitive blue drawing to aggressive dark graphite works. I hope that they connect with the viewer in their openness and honesty.
