About Jane Sutherland

I am a painter inspired by the greatness of colour in the enviroment. I live in Eastbourne, a small coastal town on the Sussex coast. My current work is mostly abstract and expressionist. I use water-based paints, inks and mixed media to create bold graduations of vibrant colour, that hopefully excite the viewer. Using paint, sand, tissue paper, gold and silver leaf to add texture and drama to my work and drawing on my experience studying textile design at college, I seek to create transcendent work that acts as a relief to the everyday, hum drum world that is always so close.
I am currently working on nautical paintings inspired by Eastbourne harbour. These are geometric abstracts on canvas and board with smooth lines and bold shapes.
