About Irene Mir

Irene’s paintings are characterised by search and experimentation. She tries out different techniques, materials, styles and plays with ideas, perspectives and themes. Her works vary from lose and quick to controlled and carefully executed. She is fascinated by a human body the same as by architectural objects, which she takes into abstraction, often merging the back- and foreground. She uses a limited color palette with a lot of dark, subdued tones of blue, brown and red, creating a settled atmosphere and a slightly melancholic mood. From time to time however she splashes a lot of colours on her canvas, letting out her passion and love for life. She's not an artist, whom you can put into the box. Irene's art is as versatile as a human nature, it flows and develops, changes and re-invents itself.
Irene is also passionate about sculpture and creates plaster, clay, wire, body cast and mixed-media pieces. She is mesmerised by tribal art from Africa, native America and Oceania and often uses traditional shapes and patterns as reference for her pieces, interpreting these in a modern way and creating a mix of traditional and contemporary. In juxtaposition to an inspiration drawn from the past, there is an interest for the future development of humanity and digitalization of the world, which found a reflection in some of her recent works.
